SKI JORING
March 1, 2008               Leadville, CO
Weather: 54 and Sunny.  Great for the spectators but the course became a slushy, dangerous mess.

History: 59th Official Year and they still don't know what they are doing.  It started 1 1/2 hours late.  When a horse and rider went down and were injured, there was neither an ambulance nor veterinarian standing by.

Special Attraction - Warren Miller Productions was filming for a future movie.

Competition: A rider and horse gallops down the center of a course as fast as they can pulling a skier at the end of a rope.  The course consists of 3 jumps, 3 gates and 3 sets of rings.  The team is penalized by adding seconds to the run for missing a gate, dropping the baton and missing a ring.  The pro course consists of larger jumps and 3 rings in each set.

Divisions: Legend - Old Guys (our age); Sport - Amateurs; Open - Pros
While waiting for the competition to start, we watched the course melt.
Foreground: A ring the skiers collect at speeds approaching 60 MPH
Background: Red gate the pros ski through after landing the big jump
Center: Horse (The stars) & Rider (Mostly female and none got lost nor stopped to shop)
Living above 10,000' sure has a strange affect on the brain.  He thought I was Warren Miller!
